On behalf of the faculty, staff and students, welcome to the Department of Information Technology at Thakur College of Engineering and Technology. As we retrospect our glorious journey of about two decades, there are numerous commendable achievements and accolades in our list. The previous year has been extremely exciting as we have been granted autonomous college status by the University Grant Commission (UGC). This excitement is primarily due to the flexibility in developing an innovative curriculum. While designing and developing this curriculum we have ensured that every student will improve on the knowledge assimilation, industry specific expertise and undergo personal transformation. The curriculum includes Programming languages, Computer architecture, Networking, Web systems, Information management, Information security, Software engineering
covering core areas and new age courses, data science, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, Cloud computing, Big Data and Block Chain. These courses are supplemented with skill based courses, value education and a lot more for the holistic development of the learner.
The unprecedented situation due to the pandemic has adversely affected educational institutions. We were able to bounce back and restore our operations from offline mode to online mode within the minimum possible time mainly due to the indomitable spirit of our faculty and the digital transformation initiatives like the Learning Management Systems (LMS) which was already in existence. Our systems and processes are robust ensuring continuity even when a crisis strikes, teaching and learning goes on. We have now designed our academic delivery mechanism to have both asynchronous and synchronous components to engage students for enhanced active learning.
The Department has 23 faculty members having excellent academic credentials. Several Faculty members serve on the editorial board of reputed International Journals. The Research Contributions of the faculty drives change in the teaching learning approach. I am extremely grateful to our team of faculty and staff who work tirelessly to enhance the learning outcomes of the students.
The institute has an excellent placement record in top-notch organizations from India and abroad. For students having an entrepreneurial bent of mind the institution offers an incubator which has become a hub for innovation and has so far nurtured more than 50 startups. It is now poised to become a student venture accelerator. The HOC cell handholds students who are interested in pursuing higher education abroad by offering support services for entry level tests, recommendation letters, selection of Universities based on the student profile and finally connecting them with alumni studying in the respective universities once they get selected.
